Getting Back to
Your Best Self

  • Medical Questions

    • What is minimally invasive surgery?

Minimally invasive surgery is an operation where only a few small incisions are required to perform the operation. Orthopedic surgeons use small, tube-shaped cameras to see inside the body and perform operations without cutting patients completely open.

Minimally invasive surgeries are usually done on an outpatient basis. They are safer than open surgery and allow patients to recover more quickly.

    • What are some nonsurgical treatment options?

Before considering surgery, our team will help you explore nonsurgical treatment options. This may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, injections, medications, and other options.

    • Will I need physical therapy before or after surgery?

Our goal is to get patients back to a full range of motion in order for them to return to work and their active lifestyles. Preoperative and postoperative physical therapy treatment programs maximize the best possible outcomes. Click to learn more about our total comprehensive care in one location.

    • Will I need surgery?
This will depend on the specifics of your condition and how well you’ve responded to other, less invasive treatments. Many patients can recover from aches and pains without surgery. At OSSWF, we prioritize nonsurgical treatments before recommending an operation. Our team will make sure you understand all of your treatment options and work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
    • How can you find out what’s causing my pain?
Orthopedic conditions are typically diagnosed using imaging technology. X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs are just a few examples of diagnostic imaging tests. These exams allow a medical professional to see images of the body’s internal structures and check for signs of damage.
    • How do I know if I need an orthopedist?

Orthopedic specialists treat conditions of the musculoskeletal system. This includes conditions such as:

      • Strains and sprains
      • Arthritis
      • Back pain
      • Joint pain
      • Fractures
      • Dislocations
      • Sports injuries

Your primary care physician will most likely refer you to an orthopedist if they believe you could benefit from their expertise.
